Male Review

What a gorgeous cover, eh.

When I want something light hearted, laugh-out-loud funny and sexy too, my automatic buy is Lillian Grant. Male Review, the eagerly awaited follow-up to Male Order was worth the wait.

Meg and Sam had finally hooked up at the end of the previous book, but their path to new love would run anything but straight. Her crazy nympho aunt moving in was just the start.

The thought of him lying in his reclining chair naked with his fist wrapped around his hard, hot, heaving cock sent a heat wave through her body and a definite dampening in areas that had no business being damp when you shared a bed with your eighty-something great aunt.

On the odd occasions they managed to get some privacy, they were usually interrupted.

Meg groaned with frustration. Not now, not when they were just about to… God, Sam was shrinking fast. His cock flopped out of her and she dropped to her knees with a moan of, “No, no,” intent on giving his manhood mouth to mouth.

When her scarily frigid mother followed shortly after, Meg gave up any hope of having any kind of sex life. In desperation, she goes to visit her father to try and understand why her mum has left him. She finds him entertaining friends:

“I hope you’re planning on helping to clean up before my mother gets home.”

Anyone would think she had lobbed a hand grenade into the middle of the table and shouted ‘incoming’. The two men so intent on poker a few minutes ago, jumped to their feet.

Then Sam drops a bombshell.

Sam met her gaze. This was a crossroads in their relationship. His answer could make or break the trust he’d built with her, but she needed to know everything about him, good and bad.

“I used to go to a BDSM club.”

Since Great Aunt Maud has just become a co-owner in a themed male strip bar, they decide to avail themselves of the facilities when the club is closed during the day. What followed, is one of the funniest scenes I’ve read in years.

Sam reached up to undo the left cuff. After a couple of minutes tugging, he glanced at Meg. “Have you got the key?”

If things weren’t bad enough, her arch-nemesis, the wickedly cocky Irishman Michael Monaghan is there to witness the entire scene. Could it get any worse? Well yes, actually, but that would be giving away the story, and you really need to read it for yourself.

If you like hot sex, spiced up with a little BDSM and a whole load of comedy, you’ll love it. Trust me, you won’t regret it  🙂

Master of the Abyss

After devouring Master of the Mountain, I was eager to read the sequel and find out more about Logan’s charismatic brother, Jake. His avoidance of commitment is legendary in the small town of Bear Flat and he’s dated most of the available women, using his infamous “One night only” rule. He’s never really noticed tomboy Kallie before, until she comes to his attention in a bar fight.

Kallie stood in front, one scruffy sprite, boots planted, guarding the territory. Looked rather like Toto trying to defend Dorothy from all comers.

Kallie and her cousins are going into business with Jake & Logan, running hiking trails for tourists that stay at Jake’s Serenity Lodge. However, these tourists often have a different ‘lifestyle’ (yeah, you can guess what kind) and Kallie finds herself invited there, to get an appreciation of what to expect from them.

She realized she was wringing her hands and shoved them in the front pockets of her jeans. There. Look casual. She swallowed hard. Hey, I see people manacled to log walls all the time. You bet. It’s a popular sport in Bear Flat. Gonna replace fishing soon.

My initial enthusiasm waned a little when Jake and Kallie launched almost immediately into D/S play. He’s an experienced Dom, and he usually selects his subs from clubs far away from Bear Flat, but he’s tempted by Kallie and keen to initiate her into his lifestyle.

His sky blue eyes darkened as if storm clouds had rolled in. “We’re playing together only this one time. Only tonight.”

It helps that she’s lusted after him for months, even though she’s nothing like his usual blonde bimbo choice of partner.

A weight lifted from her shoulders, knowing that he’d seen all of her and had liked what he saw. There could be no compliment more potent than that huge erection in his jeans. All for her.

Kallie makes a great female lead. Tough and strong, she’s spent her formative years with three male cousins and has suppressed any feminine traits. Jake is surprised – and delighted by her.

Damn, she was sweet. Tough little Kallie. According to her family and friends, she’d been the terror of the high school, trying to outmacho her big cousins and every other male also. But here? She was all woman.

Coping with Jake’s one-night-rule is not so easy for Kallie when she runs into him the morning after.

Jake saw her. His gait hitched, and the laughter faded from his face. He said, “Morning, Kallie,” his voice as polite as if she were… a tourist. As if he’d never kissed her or been inside her or sucked on her breasts. Obviously he’d meant that “one night only.” The bastard.

I would have liked a little more getting-to-know-each other before they launched into play, but thankfully it didn’t take long before their characters started to develop – and Jake breaks his rule and asks her for another night of play.

I want him. But could she take the inevitable end? Her feelings had already taken a blow from only one night. How many could she survive before she fell? “I need to think about it.”

Kallie and Jake each have a multitude of unresolved issues and I loved the way Cherise Sinclair uncovered them, a little at a time.

He’d work on this insecurity of hers more in the future – no, he wouldn’t. No ties. What the hell was he thinking?

By the time Kallie drops her ILY bomb, I was glued to the pages.

She rose on one elbow, trying to see his face in the darkness. Her voice came out strained. “Guess that wasn’t what you wanted to hear.”

He cleared his throat. “No. That’s unexpected.” Everything in him wished to reassure her and ease the strain he heard in her voice. At the same time, he wanted – needed – to grab his pack and head down the mountain. To get away.

My earlier doubts about this story were swept away. I felt for Kallie and longed for her to find happiness with Jake.

Jake had gone out of town, huh? He didn’t think it was adequate to dump her, but he had to flee the territory too, like she’d turn into some deranged stalker. Like she couldn’t take a hint – well, hardly a hint, more like Get Lost, Kallie.

There’s more to this than just Kallie and Jake being unsure about each other. Her three over-protective cousins are determined to keep them apart – and they discover there’s a serial killer in town, murdering young dark-haired women. Girls like Kallie. And she might be the next victim.

This developed into another 5-star read from Cherise Sinclair, one of the best and hottest erotic writers I’ve found.

Love Revealed (The Market Series)

This was a fun and quick sexy historical with a taste of BDSM. Lady Katherine Drummond is a widow, but one NOT on the hunt for a new husband. In her experience, husbands are a bad thing and she’s quite happy to stay single. Especially since her sexual needs are taken care of so ably by The Market. She attends on a regular basis for a secret liason with a man she knows only as Sir. Since they both wear masks, her identity is safe, and she uses an assumed name – Kat. Nobody would ever recognise her.

At least, that’s what she thought. The Earl of Heathington (Heath) is one of the most eligible bachelors of her acquaintance and for some reason he seems to like her. Especially when he suspects that she may be the tempting beauty he knows from The Market.

The sex scenes are hot and the dialogue is crisp and sharp, I only wish it had been longer. I felt it was just getting going when it finished. 4 out of 5.

Heart of Submission

Reviewed for KinkyBookReviews

This is the 3rd Claire Thompson that I’ve read and the one I enjoyed the most so far. Ashley Kendall is the pseudonym for Kate Alexander, a popular romantic novelist, and she’s embarking on some background research for her latest work – featuring BDSM. She’s had a tiny taste of this in a previous relationship that ended badly and has always been curious about it, so she books onto a ‘BDSM Immersion Weekend’.

It was her secret adventure. She could reinvent herself, just for this one weekend. After all, it was Ashley Kendall who was attending. Kate Alexander could remain safely hidden, watching from the sidelines, taking notes.

She shares a motel room with Stacey, an outgoing and experienced girl on this scene who promises to take her under her wing, and make sure that ‘Ashley’ has a good time. Things do not go to plan, however. Master John Brighton, one of the most experienced Doms, takes an instant interest in her. He tries to persuade her to attend his seminar on whipping techniques – and maybe participate in a scene with him.

She felt his hand on her shoulder, gently but forcibly turning her back towards him. “Ashley,” he said, reading her tag. Looking back at her face, his smile was warm enough to melt butter. “I bet you’re a wild one, in serious need of taming.”

She has doubts about taking part, but assured that the scene will stop if she utters her safe word, she allows him to cane her. When his sadistic nature becomes apparent – and he brutally ignores her safe word – it takes another of the resident Doms, Chase Saunders, to intervene and rescue her. She’d liked Chase earlier and enjoyed his seminar on rope play, but for him to see her messed up and traumatized is too much to cope with. Especially when he’d warned her to think carefully about taking part. She packs her bags and flees for home.

He reached for her arm, thinking how he’d fantasized so much over the last two days about being alone with her, but not like this. Not cleaning up the terrible mess another man had made.

She shrugged his hand away, shaking her head violently. “No,” she said, her voice wavering. She took a breath and said with more force. “Leave me alone. Just leave me be. I can take care of myself. I don’t want you or him.” She shot a venomous look in Brighton’s direction that would have made Chase whoop in triumph if she weren’t also rejecting him in the process.

Chase is desperate to make sure she’s okay and tracks down her email address through her website, finally making contact with her. They talk. Meet for lunch. Get to know each other. Chase encourages her to continue exploring the world of BDSM. With him. She plucks up the courage to visit him and after a sensual and mind blowing introduction to bondage, they make love. This should be the start of a wonderful romance… only Chase – at the height of passion – calls her by another woman’s name.

She should just let his gaffe pass, keep quiet, pretend she hadn’t noticed. Instead, she found herself asking, “What just happened?”

Chase turned his head slowly towards her, his eyes dark and filled with grief. “I’m so sorry, Kate.”

Chase has a dark secret of his own and one that threatens the basis of their fledgling relationship.

It was that expression of pity that pushed him the rest of the way down. In the space of a few minutes, Kate had gone from eager, adoring new lover to just another person who felt sorry for poor Chase. He could hardly bear the transformation.

I think what made this Claire Thompson stand out, for me, was that I felt engaged with the characters. This was a romance novel – erotic and sexy – but at its heart was a love story of two lonely individuals learning to trust each other and finding love. This was a great read. Angsty and emotional, it tugged on my heartstrings and pleased me with its conclusion.

5 stars.
